Is being an astronaut a lifelong dream of yours? Do you look up at the sky, wondering what is out there? And if you had the opportunity to go on an expedition to Mars, would you take it? During this Mars introduction day, you will find out everything you ever wanted to know about the Red Planet from Nancy Vermeulen, who was the commander of a Mars simulation mission in Utah.

 

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

 

• Meet a real astronaut trainer and commander of a Mars simulation mission.
• Find out everything there is to know about Mars, astronomy and space travel.
• Get an answer to all of your questions: When will humans set foot on Mars? Can we eventually live there? How long does it take to get there? What is the environment like? Is there or has there ever been life on Mars?
• Experience first-hand what it would be like to be on an expedition on Mars.
• Discover how to become a private astronaut.

WHAT THE DAY WILL LOOK LIKE:

• A warm welcome at the Cosmodrome in Kattevennen.
• You meet Nancy Vermeulen, private astronaut trainer and commander of a Mars simulation mission.
• An interactive lecture, after which you can ask all your questions.
• An exciting planetarium show entitled “Landing on Mars”.
• A balance test to understand why space travel is such a physical and mental challenge.
• A virtual walk through the solar system to understand the distances between the different planets.
• Nancy explains what private astronaut training is like.
• Lunch
• A simulated expedition on Mars, during which you discover the challenges that astronauts in outer space have to face and how to overcome them as a team.
• A lesson on how to program and steer a LEGO space rover, followed by a demo of the launching of a water rocket.
• An impressive 360° movie about Mars in the planetarium.
• A feedback round to tell us how you experienced this unforgettable day and whether you still have any questions.

DURATION:

This is a full-day workshop.

This Mars introduction day is one of the modules of the complete private astronaut training, but can also be booked separately.
